Warriors of Future 明日戰記 Props Exhibition

General / 22 November 2022

Went to see the Warriors of Future 明日戰記 exhibition with my family. Was nice to see these props again after many years.
After designing these, my concepts n 3d files were sent to the Art Dept up in China for fabrication. I made many trips back n forth to see the fabrication process and to qc these. Was a fun experience and much respect to all the artists there for such great work. I kno it wasn't easy to work out the mechanics for some of these designs 😅😅😅

(1-2) Genetics Bullet Carrier. Originally designed to be some sort of EMP device but later redesigned as the carrier for the genetic chemical vials

(3) H8 explosive device. Shoots out 8 explosive charges around to open up the ground.

(4) Military Protective Mask. Used with the light armor suit.

(5) K5 Frag Grenade. I think this was the first thing I ever designed for the film

(6) B16 Light Armor suit. Protective gear characters use before going to the exosuit

(7) Exosuit. Original design by the legend - Mike Nash. I got the rare opportunity to continue the development of it to the final version on screen.

Warriors of Future 明日戰記 - Concept Art

General / 19 August 2022

Really cool to see that the cinemas are giving away postcards with my concept art for each ticket purchase for Warriors of Future 明日戰記! The long postcards all feature concept art I did to illustrate key frames for the film. Not too sure how many different postcards they released, but from what I've seen, there are 5 different ones. These were all done to help the director visualize moments / mood / environments / etc for the film. The mech pulling on the mrap was definitely one of my favs to do. The pamphlet is a simple intro to the film and features a mashup of my designs in the layout haha. Not much to comment about the layout... but still always cool to see my work used in some way.

Congrats to all involved with WOF for finally getting it released this week after so many years in production. I spent around 5 years working closely on it; designing all sorts of stuff for it, ranging from big things and down to the smallest things you'd barely care of screen haha. This project will always have a special place to me as it was truly an incredible opportunity and pushed my pursuit into concept design far. It is also important to note that this film is not possible without the passion and dedication by all artists involved here in HK and around the world.

Hope to share more about this project when I can :)

The pamplet + 2 of the concept art postcards : LEFT (mech hanging onto the mrap as the bridge collapses) RIGHT (missile tracking the mrap down on the highway). This scene was done early in production when the idea was that the action happens around the container terminal. This was later changed to an city environment with high-rises which better reflects HK.

other 2 concept art postcards. TOP (Sean Lau in the exosuit hangs onto the mrap with his axe during battle with the robots) BOTTOM (environment art of the collapsed building with a spiral parking lot pathway)

It is no secret that Rossi has always been a huge inspiration to me. His spirit and passion has fuelled my work since the start. From the space monkey racer many years ago to more recent robots and mechs, an obvious dose of Rossi is always in the design.

It’ll be sad that today will be the last dance of his incredible motoGP career, but im sure its not the end of his racing. Thanks for the years of inspiration. Forever the Goat. Forever VR46 🏁🐐🛵🟡🏆4️⃣6️⃣

Spinning Things :: 002

General / 19 March 2021

Here's 2 more older works spinning around!

:: exoparasite :: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/kA3oz

A character design I did after spending a lot of time on my passion project - motoreaper. Motoreaper took a loooot of time, so this exoparasite was a good thing to keep things loose and quick for a change.

!! LOBSTAKU !! https://www.artstation.com/artwork/AO0x5

As much hardsurface designs that I do, I also love doing organic ones! Deep sea creatures and insects are big part of my inspiration and this design obviously draws from it.

Started rendering fancy new turntables of older works recently..

Nice to revisit old works and make use of the power of GPU to get these turntables out in a pretty reasonable time. I didn't do these back when I designed these works since it took way too long to render out with CPU.

Will try to do 1 every week till I either run out of oldies to revisit / finally have somethinew new to share haha :)

An update with previous personal project of these F1 runner bots in the iconic Ferrari red & livery. Hope to spend more time on this to develop this project further in the future :)

ZBrush 2021 Beta

General / 15 August 2020

Few images done during ZB 2021 Beta test! The new dynamics and cloth brushes are super cool to use. Really nice to get folds and random details with the cloth brushes! New features in the zmodeler brush also helps with creating shapes faster! Still much more to explore :)
Thanks Pixologic team for the opportunity and always supporting my work!
For really good uses of the new features, check out Michael Pavlovich's work. His tests during beta was truly impressive!
